Our coaches try their best to communicate openly with all interested at the beginning of try-outs that there are a maximum number of roster spots on the team. For some sports it can be quite competitive to earn a spot on a team. Particularly co-ed teams like Triple Ball (gr. 5 & 6) and Ultimate Frisbee (Gr. 4-6 and 7 & 8).
Most OCS teams have a roster of between 10-15 players (depending on the sport) and there can be 30+ students who try out. That means there can be more students who don’t make the team than those who do.
Some coaches may invite a few players to continue with the team as “practice players”. Practice players are invited to attend practices to continue to develop their skills and learn in a team environment, often leading to being better equipped for try-outs the following year. These players are not invited to attend a tournament. Occasionally a roster player will get injured prior to the tournament date or is sick, in which case a practice player could be invited to play with the team.
Please read our try-out policy so you can discuss the try-out process with your child before they attend any try-outs.
