We began our journey in March of 2020. The day after everyone returned from March Break and without any warning our staff were up and running with an online program that kept our students moving forward with structure and academic content to successfully have them complete their current school year.
Internally we took full advantage of students not in attendance and began constructing the changes needed to be ready for our children to return to a safe, clean and stable environment. Respecting the needs of our staff, students, and families was a priority.
With adequate space on the inside of our facility we were able to repurpose rooms to make additional classrooms, allowing us to have smaller student cohorts. Protocols such as masks, hand hygiene, additional hand washing stations, and signage were immediately put in place. Water fountains were removed and replaced with water bottle filling stations. Floors were scrubbed, waxed and polished. AC and ventilation systems were inspected, cleaned and upgraded to government standards. A full re-scheduling of recess breaks and hallway activity took place in order to limit the number of students gathering in one area. We changed from one main entrance to now using seven designated points of entry upon morning arrival, at which time each student uses hand sanitizer. Traffic within the school throughout the day is meticulously scheduled to avoid crowded passageways. Students re-entering the building after recess breaks have access to hand sanitizer at each entrance.
OCS is blessed to be situated on several acres of land. Our beautiful grounds are used as outdoor classrooms, for physical education, and for recess breaks. We have brand new play structures that are sanitized before school and before each recess. We have a cleaning staff that clean and sanitize the inside of the building before, during, and after school. All electronic equipment, laptops, and iPads are cleaned and sanitized before and after use.
